The selling stories #Day8 #halfmarathon

A picture speaks more than a 1000 words.

Depicting a story with an image is always powerful and so is trying to create images.

Talking about sales, service sales to be precise, it is very important to create images in the customer's mind to make a deeper connection. Selling of services is harder as one can't quantify anything or showcase the service quality. In such a case if one uses imagination and tries to create image in customer's mind by correlating the same with anything of relevance to the customer it leaves an impression.

Best of all everyone loves to imagine because imagination can be anything and everything that one actually desires.

Just play with it!!

Sales like any other job can be monotonous, boring after sometime. In order to break the jinx one needs to be playful.

Adding ones personal touch not only helps making a connection with the customer but also helps in keeping it creative. One should blend the knowledge, skills well with innovation and be playful with work.

The Little efforts taken in doing something new or maybe doing the same in a new fashion may or may not result in sales but it does keeps one cheerful and positive.

Another very important aspect in sales is the domain knowledge. It is good to go with the flow, listen, understand amd then make the move but what is needed is to be hands on with the industry specific know-how.

At times when rapport building, listening and all else fails it is the core knowledge and insight that can convert. One should be updated with current status as well as be aware of the history and stories attached to it. This again helps in creating a lasting bond.

Domain knowledge should also come with enhancing ones skill set to current trends. It not only keeps one sales oriented but also increases ones worth.

The Brand. The identity.

Every organisation struggles in the beginning. Infact struggles may come up anytime for any organisation. But they help in creating The Brand.

Sales has never been easy and will never be. It's just that attaching a brand name lends a lot of credibility to it which in result facilitates selling.

It takes a long,  long time to create a brand. Over a period of time when the brand is established it is not just the name but how and what one gets as an experience. It becomes the IDENTITY of the brand - the all encompassing. It may mean different things for different people but the value is same for all.

Above all one has to remember that no matter it is a new brand or a well established one, it has to be handled with care and every sale should add to it.

Actions are louder than words.

It is true that the way one speaks, one can win hearts. Be it woman or man everyone melts when they hear good things. But what matters even more in sales is when ones expressions go with words. Ofcourse the words are important but if there is no expression with it, the importance does have impact.

Quite often then people even after hearing everything good and what one wanted to hear, still feels a vacuum. It is because these are times when one feels it is not a human but a machine speaking to them....expressionless...emotionless.

One's words should always accompany expressions, actions to carry weight. It creates a bond and lends authenticity in totality. Be it personal or professional life more than words the actions are what makes people stay together for long.

Communication is the key.

Aptly said but what remains unsaid is - how to communicate. Communicate in itself puts "U" before "I". Such a beautiful depiction always consider the other person before oneself.

Sales completely revolves around this concept. The more one puts the customer at front more easy it is to convert the sale. Listen to the customer so one gets to know the need of the customer. One should never intend on making other listen instead should observe the unsaid. When one listens with intent and then tries to communicate, not answer, one truly develops lasting relationships.

So to summarise the gold coins are -
Listen more
  Observe even more
    Speak less
      Give a good experience

The selling stories #Day4 #halfmarathon

Mostly in off season the sales flow is low. The general response from the team is - we are trying everything but no one is coming or people are delaying it. Well like every business, sales too moves in cycles. So if there are busy days there are bound to be easy days. The important thing is to OBSERVE.

One needs to be vigilant of the verbal and non-verbal. Let the person reveal himself. Observe the mindset and the customize and personalise as per his need.

If one observes closely one can easily find the tipping point. That tipping point is the soul of the deal. If one can click on the tipping point the deal is yours if not today in the days to come but it surely is a success.

Hence observation is the key to all. The more one observes the more easy it gets to get to the finish.

What do you notice when you get to a new place??
Yes what do you think??  I think nothing much but do look around see the interior, the things around and kind of sniff too...hahaha..

When we get to a place we are quite apprehensive and that apprehension makes us put on a face that maybe cold, maybe indifferent but it is not rigid. Like when I get to a place I am very high on attitude/arrogance and I go for vibes to shift gears. If I meet good people, I like the place and become more me and if I get attitude so the same is returned in leaps and bounds.

The point I am trying to make is, it is the experience that one tries to gauge and it is the experience that stays when all else fades away. This is very important in sales. The customers these days are intelligent and we'll informed. They check, double check everything before investing. Whatever features we tell don't seep through but the experience does. The experience is what lingers and brings the customer back.

The selling stories #Day2 #halfmarathon

Taking a cue from last post, selling does mimic relationships. If everything takes time and nurturing, so comes another important issue listening.

Most often couples fight over not listening to each other or not giving importance to what a spouse has voiced as opposed to someone else.

So is the case in selling.

One can only get through a customer if one listens. And listens with intent. Listening with intent is very important because only then can one come up with the right solution at the right time. It is the understanding of the "need" so that one's product/service fit into that mould.

The selling stories #Day1 #halfmarathon

Har cheez ko samay lagta hai....

An old proverb or maybe not even a proverb but widely used in our daily lives by our seniors. Almost everyone's parents, grandparents have always bestowed them with this wisdom when one losses patience during trying times.
The impatient being that I am, hyperactive too, rebel to an extent, it took a lot of time for me to absorb this, especially in relation with sales.

Yes, I work in marketing and it's all about selling. Selling the product, the services, the idea, the concept everything, it just never stops at anything. When I started working, actually even before that, it was while I was doing my MBA that I hated selling. I didn't want to sell anything. I used to think that suggesting someone to buy something is wrong. One is trying to manipulate and extract money from other.

Gosh! It does sounds so wrong if one puts it that way. But selling is not wrong and I learned it with time. It was when I had left a job as I didn't want to sell that I took another selling job thinking it's just an in-between and I'll move on soon. It was during those trying and at times rewarding times that I found my career. I did want to give up but the urge to continue was so high that I never gave up and found my love.

Same goes with selling. firstly if you are doing the right thing then there's nothing wrong in selling. If one is creating something of use to other then one needs to showcase it to other so that they can buy. It's not easy to sell anything to anyone, it takes time and effort. If one's belief is strong, intentions honest then sales will come. The conversions always takes time but it happens. One needs to stay long enough with the customer to understand him and make him understand to build a lasting relationship - Brand Loyalty. I think all else fails if one is in a rush. No quality, quantity, facilities can compensate if one is not giving time.

Does the same holds true why lovers want to spend entire day and night either staying with each other or talking on phone????

The curtain raiser #halfmarathon

Blogging or no blogging but yes I do think blogging either ways. This year ofcourse I am blogging more than ever. First tried my hand at January Blogathan of as much as I could but the biggest challenge was the April A2Z Challenge and I am so proud of completing it.

The more you write the more sorted and self aware you become. These past months centred me. I can say I know myself better now.

But the lasy bee that I am, blogging always takes a back seat. I think like other things I always seek a challenge to perform or else I don't do anything even when I can. So fabulously another challenge caught my eye - the July #halfmarathon.

Starting from today counting down the last 15 days you will be witnessing posts every weekday - Sundays are bliss! Theme, no theme, what I am going to write, same like I like or trying something different, catch on to know it all.

Say Aye to the curtain raiser.....

Halfpast 2016 #lazymemoirs #halftimepitstop

It will be a lie if I say I never had any expectations from 2016. Though I didn't make any new year resolutions I did have some dreams, to come true for this year both personally and professionally. The way the year started my hopes were high and I was enthusiastic about getting it done.

Personally speaking I had set a deadline for getting married and that was about in April. If it happens till then it will be on my mind or else out and out. I think investing a lot of energy into something which one is not sure of is actually a total waste. So Jan, feb was all happy happy planning for what, how and when of marriage but it didn’t happen.

People have always been asking me when I'll tie the knot and earlier I was like Gosh! I don't want to go to this party what will I answer. But actually it doesn’t bother me anymore. Things like this should happen when they happen; one should not wait for it to happen. There is so much more than just sitting and waiting for - once I am married I'll do this...... Setting my mind firm has given me a huge confidence. Now I feel like I am The female Salman Khan of their lives and that is the reason they are so interested in my marriage.

I wonder when people who know me still can't see how I set my mind on it. I am complete in myself, maybe I don't need someone to get hitched just for the sake of it. It has to be a bigger, better reason for me to let go of my freedom. I am not seeing anyone and neither am I in conflict with my identity, these few months actually made me realise I am so content with myself. Ofcourse there are times I seek companionship or maybe a punching bag but as of now my zen is way too high to overcome the same. Maybe I have many more things to do now those are keeping me engaged.

Speaking of which, I love writing memoirs and I got to know about it from the April A2Z Challenge. I started blogging because I wanted to write but I have been a lazy blogger but this year blogchatter gave me opportunities to shun the same.
I have started blogging more than before. Infact I started the year trying out with a January blogathan doing as many as I could. This blogathan actually pushed me to think on different blogging topics as well as write out of my comfort zone.
Then there was the - April A2Z Challenge and I so so loved not just participating but completing it as well. This challenge not only taught me few tricks on blogging it even made me realise what I am good at. My theme was "memoirs" and I loved writing those. Few of these posts are put together into my first e-book - "The Wink, The Smiles & The Butterflies"

And no, I am not pursuing writing professionally but I am a workaholic and work is like my lifeline.
My current organisation made me realise the importance of work and actually made me the ambitious I am today. I have been trying to do more, learn more but ofcourse it never comes without the struggle, sorry, as my CEO puts it, "the challenges". Working with a team is not so easy with people from various backgrounds, domains and IQs. It is a task to bring everyone to task. But I never expected what turn my career would take till 30th June when I had a small briefing from my CEO about a big role he planned for me. Things are under wraps but ready to be revealed. So excited for the days ahead.
I am blessed for this year and for the remainder of the year I am pretty hopeful things are going to be
even better and life even more joyful.
Keep rocking and shine like star.
