Debonair #atozchallenge

“You can always know of a gentleman by the kind of shoes he wore” – a line out of my school book which we used to drool by in our teens.....girls turning ladies...aim of a convent school. Over the years with experience you get to know the good boys are always better dressed but a MAN is much more than that.

I was 15 when I fell for one of my neighborhood kid- RAJ. He was a couple of years older to me. I in school, he in college, lean and clean, swag in his walk, cool in his talk, almost everything that I wanted then.
Being the bold-streak that I am, I rang him up to confess my love (with a different name, I am bold but not foolish) but he was at his friends place, the landline days of 90s – no mobiles, no caller-ids. Tried to rang him a couple of times but same no luck.  So somehow I got hold of his friend’s home number and called.

We chatted on for about an hour and it was so much fun. He was sweeter than I expected. Not just sweet but charming, polite and and maybe debonair sums it all.
I never knew he could be like this, I mean he lives round the corner and I have seen him almost since I can remember but didn’t know his this side. Always saw him a bit raw not debonair. It was almost at the end of the conversation that he said – “I am not Raj, I am Dhwaj his friend.”

I was taken aback for a moment but then as a refreshing air knew what my heart really yearned for was not Raj but some Mr. Debonair.
